Honestly, my only gripe with the Sideshow v2 Maul (concerning the head) is how the right side tattoo above his eye is thicker than the one on the left. It’s a pretty common thing from the initial batches. It can be fixed obviously, but it’s still pretty stupid they missed that.

The regular Hot Toys head looks MILES better without light hitting it directly in the face. And it looks far better with the older cloaks. The new one Hot Toys threw in is just ass—as they usually are. They need to fire their cloak tailors, or hire new ones. Pick better materials, bleed the damn excess dye and cut the patterns large enough. For fucks sake.

The best. Yeah, this is the first time I fully agree with this guy
And I have to say, I'm glad that they got rid of the retarded pers system and now they use separate rolling eyeballs, that was a brilliant decision. No more crosseyed figures.

The pers system was flawed from the get go. They knew this and still kept trying to use it. I’m glad they finally learned their lesson, but Hot Toys takes ages to adapt to criticism sometimes.

I’ll admit, the regular head is looking better. I still hate the secondary headsculpt and the cloak is atrocious. Also, praising this version for using pleather is completely asinine. Pleather is trash and should be ditched. Period. This hobby is better off without it.

I’m not sure even I entirely agree with him near the end. I think the Sideshow version might be too lanky?

Hot Toys went too far the other way though, that’s for sure. Needed to meet halfway. Almost wondering if it can be rectified by simply removing the fatsuit?

Neither has correct tattoos, because you physically can’t. They weren’t consistent enough throughout the film to have a solid foundation for proper accuracy.

I do prefer the red on the Sideshow, but not in direct light. And he looks better with one of the older Darth Maul cloaks on him anyway.

Basically, I think it boils down to this. The Hot Toys version is good to have (with or without the speeder) for the upcoming Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Obi-Wan figures. Having the three facing off in their own isolated display will be pretty amazing to see and will easily be one of the centerpieces of any collection. This would be the reason I pick up the DX16, above all else.

However, the Sideshow version is easily the best option to display a cloaked Darth Maul. You are going to want to water treat that shitty Hot Toys robe though. Or scour eBay for an older one.

No one has given us the definitive Darth Maul yet. It’s unlikely to happen, honestly. Then again, fans like me are extremely hard to please.

Another video:

At one point, he states that retail stores are starting to get the DX16 and 17, but that can’t be right? It’s only the typical early batches that some Hong Kong sellers get?

Anyway, this guy also has an issue with the proportions of the Hot Toys, as others have pointed out. I honestly don’t think it’s that bad. The head, yes. It should be a tad thinner. That would solve the problem, I think. If there is padding in the chest area, taking it out could throw off the look too much?

I do agree with him that the Hot Toys expression needed work. That and narrowing the head a bit could have nailed the look of Maul, even if it was still missing some of that Ray Park likeness.

From what I can tell from all the videos (and comparisons so far), the Hot Toys has better paint apps (obviously), better horns, better proportions (outside of the thicker head), way better accessories and the boots may be more accurate.

Also, the front tunic length is more in line with how it should be, whereas the Sideshow version seems to stop a bit short at the knee. And the belt rests way too high on the Sideshow version. That can be fixed, but no one seems to have done so. I definitely adjusted mine when I got it though.

The biggest faults of the Hot Toys seems to be the questionable expression and likeness, the red being too dark, the less accurate gloves, the body proportions (not in my opinion though), the loose speeder display base connection (kind of idiotic that Hot Toys overlooked that) and the cruddy robe.

Both the Hot Toys price and the Sideshow price are hard as shit to swallow, with Sideshow’s being even more of a fucking joke. I mean, they couldn’t even include the damaged saber in the standard release or a cloak. What the hell.

For what you get with Hot Toys, it’s a little better, but still feels like you’re taking it up the ass a bit. However, if I didn’t own the Sideshow version, I’d easily be picking up the DX16 and a loose Sideshow v2 head on eBay, just for the extra options.

Outrageous price with such horrible second headsculpt to boot is what stopped me from buying this figure.

Anyone know if the robe on this bleeds onto the figure? I’ve only popped him open once to give him a look over.

I’m fully expecting Hot Toys Padme or Mace Windu to be shown at SDCC. Also, an updated Jango and pre-orders for him going live?

I’m still on the fence about him. Part of me really wants to get him, but I’d rather have two Mauls than two Jango’s and the only negative thing about the Sideshow one is the slightly smaller belt and those damn leg armor pieces.

It's a shame Ahsoka and Asajj were not added to Battlefront II yet, it'd be great if they were and HT picked up on that to make them. I'd love to have a realistic looking figure of Asajj.

I don’t think we’ll see either one in Battlefront. It’s more likely they’ll be a Hot Toys figure.

There's files suggesting they're working on them, as well as Padme

Padme I could see. I’m not holding my breath for the other two. Would be cool to have them in the game though. The more heroes and villains the better. They need a 6v6 heroes vs villains mode.

They have a massive hard on for the Clone Wars, Ahsoka is literally a matter of time. For now they're working on her, another map and a new game mode, apparently. 6v6 sounds like it would be a fun mess.

It would. I feel like 4v4 is too easy for one team to dominate. With an extra two, it would be more chaotic. Instead of it always being one vs three or four, teams *might* be a little more balanced on the field. Biggest issue is respawn time.

Yeah if you have a good team they all stick together and kill the other team one by one as they spawn. Matches hardly ever turn around, if one team starts winning the gap just widens.

Yep. It makes winning boring actually. Sure, some of the fights are fun, but it too often results in the entire team showing up and killing the one guy standing his ground. With six people, you’re going to have the same thing, but theoretically, it will be more chaotic and actually allow more one-on-one duels, due to having more people in the match. I’d even take 8v8, honestly.

So whaddoya guys think... to deluxe or not to deluxe? Usually it’s pretty simple to make up my mind, but having a hard time with this one. Started off wanting the deluxe when it went up for PO but leaning towards regular atm

Not a money issue, more so just - do I really need that stuff? And it’ll take up more space
