A lot of people are blinded by this release. They’ve been that way since it was shown. The only thing this one does better is the horns and the paint applications of the eyes—as far as the sculpt goes.
As a Darth Maul fan—this figure has failed in almost every conceivable way to impress me. Something a bloated price tag of a figure did some years back. I cannot stand most of Sideshow’s 1/6 figures anymore, but their Darth Maul is one of the best 1/6 figures I’ve ever seen—especially in person.
The paint application isn’t sweaty looking like the Hot Toys, but I’ve never liked that about Maul anyway. It’s more accurate, I know, but they’re supposed to be tats and the Sideshow figure conveys that better.
Seeing people dump on the SSC version irritates me and always will. I’ll be the first one to shit on the second batch, as it really truly is awful, but some people gotta give credit where credit is due. Even if it’s just the ONE time.
Hot Toys dropped the ball. They continue to drop the ball with their Star Wars figures. It’s frustrating. The QC issues alone are enough to make someone stop collecting them.
