Just finished it. I wish it was a better copy as it was an Italian version and all the scenes that had paper with writing on it was in Italian... but regardless it didn't affect the experience too much. I gave it a solid 9, might increase a bit on repeat watches with the Blu Ray I'd probably get.

It was an R film done right, and the main thing it does right with that rating is that it's not constantly reminding you it's a comic book film. It could of been a strong indie film if you remove all the Gotham and Wayne references and at the end you find out he's the Joker.

The pacing was good and no part felt like padding or a slog, and I honestly felt the closer it got to the end the better it got. Very curious to see where they can take it beyond the ending.

Now that it's been out awhile I guess we can talk about spoilers, but I didn't mind the side Batman origin story in there as well. I'm glad it wasn't Arthur that did it.

The music was great.

Also, he's the best Joker on screen. Ledger was great as we all know, but he's very one dimensional compared to this. I truly bought Phoenix as being fucking nuts.

My wife fucking loved it, and half way through whispered to me that he's hot.

I don’t think any Joker character is one dimensional. Maybe Leto’s, but even then... we didn’t actually get to see much of him. They cut out a lot of his footage.

I don't dislike Leto's Joker like some do. Again, we didn't actually get to see much of him. Plus whoever followed Ledger was always going to be up against it.

Especially now we have Phoenix although we'll never get to see Phoenix go up against Batman.

Phoenix gave the best performance the character ever had. It's the closest thing to the Killing Joke origin but without him swimming in chemicals.

I'm not opposed to a sequel. I think given what was setup here, Joker can live in a film without Batman again.
