Alita is not a threat to that anymore. Alita coming to blu ray is not a threat to anything right now.
The media is trying to get people to not watch it... like it is a threat to the journalists themselves. ( as stupid as it sounds)

Haven't seen, and have no desire to EVER see Captain Marvel, but I've tried to watch Alita twice and got bored both times. Which resulted in me turning it off and trying to rewatch it later. Just not my thing I guess!? The biggest problem with it (for me, so far) is the actress who plays Alita is terrible. Her voice is emotionless and dull. Which doesn't help when you have a CGI character. She was the same in Maze Runner. She's basically the same in every role i.e. she can't act.

I'm not a quitter though so eventually I'll go back and knock out the rest of the movie. I got to the point where Justin Beiber is making a shady deal with True Detective in his office.

It was different in theaters.
Just like avatar. Or aquaman

The movie in theaters almost feels like an universal ride. The scope and the effects were meant for the big screen. Specially the action
On a smaller screen a lot is lost. Im not saying the complaints arent valid ( specially about her acting) but the reason people are going crazy over it is due to how it looked in theaters

Not at all, people are going crazy because it's a good movie with solid performances. Rosa proved she can carry a movie on her own which is more I can say about half the actors in the MCU. In a world where someone thought communism was a good idea you can't be surprised if someone out there dislikes something genuinely good. There are all kinds of people thinking all kinds of things out there, it's normal and poor taste doesn't need to be justified it just is.

Yeah that's why I'm asking specifically, because movies ranging from The Matrix, Termintor 1/2, Alien/Aliens, Robocop and Blade Runner to movies like Inception, Interstellar, Edge of Tomorrow, The Fifth Element, District 9 and Total Recall can be called "Sci-fi action movies with decent storylines."

And I like ALL of those movies.
