I’m not sure I’d lump Inception into the sci-fi genre myself.

It’s in the sci-fi genre. It doesn’t suck ass. There are plenty of movies out there. If you mean specifically like it? No, I can’t give you anything. Same with the Matrix when it came out.

Ya’ll reading too much into a comment lmao. What I was getting at is that it’s sci-fi, it’s got a good story that has some heart to it and it’s well directed. So, someone not liking it clearly has a bias against sci-fi.

I was asking for examples to have handy.
Ive said it was similar to blade runner and Elysium. But i wanted more examples

That's why I'm asking for specifics.. because I didn't like it. Yet I like ALL the previous movies I listed. Which are ALL sci-fi movies. So the idea that people who don't like Alita don't like sci-fi...

It must’ve been the anime eyes lol.

I enjoyed it as much as movies like the first Matrix and Blade Runner. Sure, there was a lot of cgi, but meh.

You said:

Haven't seen, and have no desire to EVER see Captain Marvel, but I've tried to watch Alita twice and got bored both times. Which resulted in me turning it off and trying to rewatch it later. Just not my thing I guess!? The biggest problem with it (for me, so far) is the actress who plays Alita is terrible. Her voice is emotionless and dull. Which doesn't help when you have a CGI character. She was the same in Maze Runner. She's basically the same in every role i.e. she can't act.
Im not gonna argue your points but it made me think:

This kinda describes a lot of characters in sci fi.
Your description is exactly how neo was in all 3 matrix movies.
Deckard in blade runner and K in blade runner 2 are also like that.
And Major in ghost in the shell anime. As well as robocop and Dredd. Even the girl in Ex Machina fits this description.
Universal soldier as well.

Im not saying that the Alita actress is a great performer but this makes me wonder if james Cameron hired her because she could pull off the robot personality lol
Alita is basically a new born in the movie, kind of.

It is interesting that Goslin in blade runner 2 is completely robotic and void of personality but because hes a guy we dont notice it as much.
Same in the Case of neo or universal soldier. Neo has no petsonality or emotions in all 3 movies.

Im not saying you are wrong in the review of alita, but that kind of dull personality is basically in every sci fi movie dealing with cyborgs.
And alita actually laughs and cries or gets excited a few times. She had more emotion than new or the blade runner guys.

I haven’t seen The Maze Runner and I’m assuming I’m probably better off for it?

She wasn't playing a cyborg/robot in The Maze Runner. And she was just as emotionless and dull. She can't act.

Neither can keanu lol. Thats my point. They picked these actors becausr they are basically robots in real life lol.

I’ve liked Keanu in most films he’s been in. I honestly can’t remember complaining about any of his acting.

Now, the triclops he fights in the first John Wick... that’s awful acting.

Keanu is best when he’s not speaking or when he’s playing a surfer/stoner. Alita is no world altering movie but it’s fun and enjoyable and it’s not hard to watch if you already liked the anime/manga. I feel the same about the latest hellboy movie (and I know I’m in the minority and alita is better than hellboy) but I went in expecting just to see a fun visually entertaining movie. It’s not like once upon a time in Hollywood where I’m expecting a deeper experience

Keanu was born to play Klaatu.

As for Alita, it was average. A sequel might not see the light of day and I would not be bothered by it.

Someone said to compare this movie to a Sci-Fi flick @DEVIL_666 my best guess of comparison is Dune.

Paul is a young person learning the ways to fight evil houses with a prophecy.

Alita is a young person (somewhat) using a new body to fight evil people with a past.

Both are set in grimy space, both have mentoring figures. Problem is Dune (Frank Herbert's book) was completed all in movie, Alita needs a sequel to finish her story arc.

If you're talking about Lynch's movie then it's an odd comparison.
Not only his DUNE was a bad film but it also had 100% completely different tone.
Plus it wasn't actually sci-fi due to horrible changes made to the source matherial.

My sister loves Dune. I never got into it though.
