Post away. No issue with what people like.
I’m glad they’re bringing Palpatine back. At least there will be one character in this that I like.

It’s hard to be positive about Star Wars these days though. I started out enjoying TLJ, but eventually it got to me.I say post what you want. This thread needs some positivity. I really am excited about Palpatine coming back. He’s my favorite Star Wars character. I’ve been disappointed with the new films, but there’s always a small part of me that’s holding out hope they’ll get me to enjoy the franchise again. I just feel like they didn’t have a fully formed plan for this trilogy and it shows.

I still like the film, but they really need to listen to the majority of the fans. This goes for all companies that produce films, shows, comics or games. Without us... you’re nothing. We’ve made it well and clear that we don’t want the agenda crap in our escapism.
Keep the politics to Palpatine.

My biggest challenge with this series is my Daughter. She loves Rey, and wants to be a writer when she grows up (YA books specifically). I'm trying to teach her that it's ok to enjoy Rey, but she needs to understand the shitty writing that went into her character. Making a character a mary sue isn't good writing.
If I had a daughter and she liked Rey I'd make sure she understands what a hero's journey actually is and the dangers of vanity. My biggest challenge with this series is my Daughter. Female screenwriters consistently create ‘Mary Sue’ characters of their Fempowered female protagonists. Why? Because women simply ‘are’ and men must ‘become’.
Characters like Rey or Captain Marvel are just women’s best attempts to write male heroes with vaginas. But they approach them in the way they see men, apex ‘winners’ with no idea of how they became winners.
So when a female writer attempts to create essentially a gender-swapped version of a male hero, that character is already an omnipotent superhero with powers and abilities that simply always existed. She is the way that writer perceives the male experience. There is no archetypal ‘hero’s journey’ for that sex-switched character and is therefore unbelievable. She is the Mary Sue.
