I've really been getting into the Nolan films lately, especially Batman Begins which I watched again last night. I think for a pure origin story, no other film beats it and it's imo the best of that trilogy.

What I love is that he's not even Batman until the 60 minute mark.

I love the moody gothic nature of the original but it's aged really badly. BB is literally perfect.

I still thoroughly enjoy the Keaton films. However, Batman Begins is my Batman, much like Man of Steel is my Superman.

I still think Reeve is unbeatable but he's not in great films. MOS is better in the sense Superman actually feels like Superman, he just had a much shittier Zod.

I watched TDKR over the weekend. It's only the 2nd time I've seen it.

It's a giant fucking mess with a really dull middle act. I loved all the prison segments. Bane is a meh villain. I do like how they merged the two storylines Knightfall and Dark Knight Returns together that it makes sense. But in the end, it's bloated and the pacing sucks. It's not the worst conclusion to a trilogy. There is a lot I do like in it. The whole metaphor of Bruce escaping Prison is him escaping the well from his childhood without his father's help. The jump sequence is one of my favorites from the whole trilogy.

I think any correlation to the TDKRerurns is just happenstance. It’s mostly based on Knightfall and really only that Bane broke Batman’s back.

The Dark Knight Returns played a HUGE part in Batman vs Superman though. The only thing out of place was Wonder Woman being attractive and the Cave Troll Doomsday. And also a missing Robin and Joker.

TDKR has a line directly lifted from DKR where the cop tells the other one you're in for a show tonight when he realizes Batman returned.
