Yeah, I don’t get why they are so upset about this. The amount that this will cut into their profits is minimal at best?

I guess it’s because they were planning to do gtw as their next crown series release and then someone of ssf decided to start posting pics and discussing the custom...I mean an $800+ custom shouldn’t matter, then again asmus will have to hear from every dummy “why doesn’t my $300 figure look as good as the $800 one”

Good to see the new and improved Gandalf ready to go! He’s a bit pricey obviously, but he’s glorious.

Made the same concession as Maul - EG Thanos is being snubbed for this guy.

I wasn’t 100% sure on Thanos anyway, it was more of a completion thing, but this takes any thought out of it.

It’s always like that for the hulk/ thanos like figures, as they’re mostly a hunk of plastic and rubber and don’t have the things I particularly love about 1/6 scale, such as the mixed media etc.

Anywho, hope Galadriel is up next..

My rationale behind it was... do I really need a villain for my Avengers? I don’t collect Marvel villains. I only have the Dark World Loki and Days of Future Past Magneto.

Granted, Thanos is THE villain. He wouldn’t be displayed with my core Avengers team though and I wasn’t impressed with how limited the articulation was on the Infinity War Thor, which was the intended companion for him on the shelf.

At the end of the day, I had to ditch them both. Gandalf and Star Wars figures are going to hit me hard soon. I lost the deposit on Thor, but got the Thanos deposit overturned. Why there’s a deposit on Thanos at all is beyond me. Thor as well. They’re going to sell, you dimwits.

In fact, the only Hot Toys that don’t seem to be selling that well are the Star Wars figures which don’t fall into the PT or OT categories.

I hope she’s not. I need a break.

I’ll probably skip Elrond, so he should be next.

For me it was also easy to let go of Thanos as I wasn’t a huge fan of his movie design, it’s not very menacing nor has much ‘presence.’ He’s a good villain yes, and I throughly enjoyed IW/EG, but he’s just not what I envision Thanos looking like in the end.

I liked how he looked at the end of Avengers 1 and he was still alright looking in GotG. I can understand they humanized him to make him more relatable, but at the cost of intimidation. I didn’t even find him intimidating in EG with the armor on.

Yeah the Disney Wars stuff is going to be sitting on shelves for years to come. Just like Galaxy’s Edge is a bust since they decided to base it on the wrong era. So much potential, all wasted for ‘progress’

Man Rankin Bass figures would be sweet. They’d really be some grotesque sculpts to get the animation style down though lol, and I wonder if they’d be able to get that drawn look down.

Finally a fellow rankin bass fan! I am not sure how they could capture the art style but I’d like to see it happen

I’d love it too but I don’t really see it happening unfortunately. They’re pretty niche films at this point. I just feel lucky we’re getting such awesome representations from the Jackson flicks.

Speaking of which, Asmus just took it to the next level with Theoden:

The detail on that armor/helmet/shield is glorious!

Sculpt is good too, and I think they even nailed making the sculpted hair look good (unlike the blobby looking hair on the sculpted Boromir)

I honestly had no interest in Theoden up until this point... but I need him now.

Edit: $190 on BBTS

I would get him if I wasn’t restricting myself to the fellowship and some of the elves. And the Hobbit figures.

Yeah, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere. Some will want the elves more than the men. Some will want the men more than the elves. And some will just want the orcs and a few elves.

In my case I don’t go for any specific ‘grouping’ for figures, but just the ones my eye is really drawn to.

For example, my avengers and gotg are woefully incomplete, but I have no desire to buy the rest to fill in the ranks.

As to Rohan - the only 2 figures I’d get are this guy, and Eowyn if they made one in her outfit she’s wearing when we first see her. No interest in the armoured look. No interest in Eomer. Similarly not interested in a potential Faramir.

The elves, I just want the big 4, and for orcs it just depends on an individual basis how they turn out.

I’ve also really cut back on 1/12 figures lately since I realized I get a lot more enjoyment out of my 1/6 collection, dollar to dollar.

For example, I haven’t po’d a new DBZ figure in ages outside of the powered down ‘new’ Broly. I even cancelled the recent Gogeta and adult Gohan. And I don’t feel I’m missing out at all, I’ve just finally narrowed down my focus. Took long enough though lol.

Dragon Ball is something I’ll never give up. It’s too much a part of me. Like Star Wars, TMNT and Batman.

Luckily I’m good on dbz...I guess I just got over it...I love the figs I have but I’m done with that collection. Star Wars too, once I get maul I’m out! Unless there a good rotj Vader (might get the 1/4) or another bespin Luke. Lord of the rings though, I just love the characters and story so much it’s really hard to resist. I don’t care to collect orcs and like I said gotta skip on Rohan...though if they did a eowyn 2.0 I’d get her to battle the witch king. I need them to make Sauron! And I want him to be 1/4 scale he seemed larger than life in the films so in my eyes it’d work with the other figures

Ah yeah Sauron! How could we forget about him. I’d love one that’s bigger than the standard scale, but 1/4 might be a bit too big for me.

Space is a thing, unfortunately lol

As for DBZ I still love it but I’m not a fan of Super nor was I ever really a fan of anything beyond the Cell saga. It’s fun enough to watch but I don’t feel the need to really own anything from those parts of the show.

Save the new Broly, since he has so many display options compared to the usual one look.

Well if not 1/4 definitely bigger than standard 1/6 figures

So it seems the Azog shown off in that pic was actually for a 1/4 scale statue:

index.php

Seems they want to diversify a bit and the hobbit line hasn’t been selling well for them. They might potentially still do a 1/6 version though, they’re feeling out how much interest there is.

I kinda wish 1/4th scale would go away. It’s useless and I have no idea why people are so interested in it. Lifesize I get. One-sixth scale I get. One-twelfth scale I get. I’ll never understand the desire to have a quarter scale collection. It’s just too damn big.
