So, I guess BBTS is just going to mark up everything that’s an exclusive and everything that’s classified as an import, especially a niche one like many of the anime pvc statues that come out each year. Why even bother ordering from them, in that case? Because they’ll be one of the few American companies offering said products “post release”?

They have really got to rein in the markups. A twenty dollar uptick for Mafex figures is bad enough as it is. They must not get a wholesale discount of any kind, when ordering those. For twenty dollars over cost, you can just get the thing imported yourself, by either Amiami or HLJ or any number of other Japanese retailers. At least with many Figuarts products, the prices seem a tad more reasonable—presumably because Bandai gives them more wholesale options.

I simply don’t get their angle. I use BBTS mostly for Figuarts and Hasbro stuff these days. I’ll get the occasional Mafex or whatever, if I can’t get it anywhere else except ScalperBay. However, even their Hasbro stuff is getting costly now. Almost $25 for a $20 retail figure? Come on guys. What is going on with you?

The thing that irked me today was seeing a $90+ markup for Mythra and Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. That is flat out fucking absurd. And this isn’t the first time they’ve done it. They play fast and loose with all these anime pvc releases, when it comes to the surcharge. I don’t even have an interest in many of the figures they slap these huge prices on. I just find it disheartening that the biggest online toy company of all time dips so heavily into scalping territory.

And what is with all the goddamn NRDs? If it’s over $150 or $200 (and isn’t from a brand like Hot Toys), yeah... I get it. You need to protect yourself a little bit. They’re throwing NRDs on the smallest shit now though. I have such a love and hate relationship with BigBad.

And that’ll do it for my biyearly BBTS rant. Let’s hope they do better going forward. I still prefer them over almost any other site.

That’s my point. Why would you use BBTS for imported anime figures at this point? Until the stock dries up and they’re all that’s left, there is literally no point, with how much they mark everything up. It’s not ten or even fifteen dollars. It’s always $20 to $30 and even $40. They’re getting much worse with it though. And more frequent.

These things are so absurdly expensive now. I remember when extravagant pieces would cost $80 at most. Then came the $90 and $100 days. It’s been a shit show ever since.

It’s looking like Pop Up Parade (Good Smile Company), Banpresto (and Ichiban Kuji) and Taito are the future of anime figure collecting. All these other overpriced figures must be produced in so little quantities now that they aren’t justifying the production cost anymore.

Prices keep rising every year. And for what? What are you getting for your $200 and $300 pvc figure? Look at how good these figures look and they’re essentially prize figures. There’s hope for this part of the hobby, but it still needs some expansion.

I don't understand the Pop Up Parade fixation lately for characters that never got a larger or regular piece like Amatersu, Kenshin and such. I mean Amatersu got a ton of First 4 Figures that are stunning, but I know most can't afford even one of those.

To GSC's credit, their Fire Emblem figures are looking very promising

Those look so beautiful. A shame Asuna is attached to the atrocity that is Sword Art Online.
